Both teams have scored in 23 of their last 25 meetings
– Four or more goals have been scored in 20 Ipswich Championship games this season
– Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals
Ipswich’s push for a Premier League place has faltered just when it matters most, but the Tractor Boys will move back into second place in the Championship if they avoid defeat at Coventry on Tuesday.
The East Anglian outfit have taken just three points from their last four games, but the home side have also faded of late and cannot now make the play-offs.
Team news
Coventry centre-back Liam Kitching will miss this game due to suspension after being shown the red card against Blackburn on Saturday.
Defender Luis Binks and winger Fabio Tavares are injured, while Ben Sheaf and Victor Torp are also doubtful after missing out against Rovers.
George Hirst made his first appearance for Ipswich since December against Hull and made a strong case to keep his place with a goal.
Wes Burns also returned after a month on the sidelines and played just over an hour, but Brandon Williams remains unavailable.
The stats
Both teams have scored in seven of Coventry’s last nine Championship home games, while Ipswich have not won any of their last four league matches.
Ipswich have won with Coventry also scoring in the last two league meetings between these clubs.
There have been three or more goals scored in 18 of Coventry’s last 20 Championship matches and City have lost only four of their 21 home league games this season.
Prediction
Ipswich drew 3-3 at Hull on Saturday as their desperate attempt to secure automatic promotion suffered another setback and there could be plenty more goals when they return to action at Coventry on Tuesday.
The Tractor Boys took the lead three times in that game, but dropped two points after the Tigers equalised in the 87th minute.
Coventry had a rare goalless outing on Saturday having been reduced to 10 men just after an hour into their match at Blackburn, but the suspension of centre-back Liam Kitching could make them more vulnerable at the back for this match.
The Sky Blues’ previous 13 matches had all produced at least three goals and it may be worth taking over 3.5 goals in this contest, with neither side shy about taking part in an end-to-end battle.
Coventry also had a high-scoring game against Hull in their previous outing, losing 3-2, while before that they played a full role in an epic FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United, losing in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.
This fixture has an extraordinary record of producing goals, with both teams scoring in 23 of their last 25 encounters and that includes Ipswich’s 2-1 home win in December.
Coventry are looking to win for the first time in six games since they beat Leeds 2-1 at home and they would love to provide another twist in the Championship promotion race, while Ipswich will be determined to end their four-match winless run, having won nine of their previous 10 games.
These teams have scored 156 league goals between them this season and may well be able to rustle up at least four more on Tuesday.
